Narrative and Drama

Mike Edwards

Narratives dictate and direct our lives and the world around us. They can be found in the elongated shadows of trees in the early morning sun or constructed out of the swirl of thoughts and images moving through our minds. Within the narrative setting, dramatic tension is created between the interplay of character and setting, colors and shapes, or between words and images.

My work explores these spaces, building narratives using the iconography of graphic novels with images and text presented sequentially, other times combining setting, character, and action within a single dramatic frame, and also through the natural, photographic interplay of light and color and shape and texture.
